One of the oldest monarchies in the Middle East experiences a split as a brother of the Saudi Warren Buffet, Prince Walid bin Talal, has come out openly against him for promoting liberal tenets that run contrary to the conservative values of the male chauvinistic and conservative kingdom.
Saudi Arabia is revered by Muslims all over the world for being the birth place of their prophet, Mohammed.
Prince Waleed is also the equivalent of Rupert Murdoch as he owns a media empire in the Muslim kingdom.
[This brotherly feud is a manifestation of a broader societal struggle between reformists and hard-liners over King Abdullah's moves to transform the Saudi kingdom into a more liberal society that allows more room for women's rights, education in science and technology, and political expression, as well as cinema houses. A key figure behind this movement is Prince Walid's father, Prince Talal bin Abd al Aziz, who is a half brother of King Abdullah and a son of the Saudi kingdom's founding father. Prince Talal has long criticized the House of Saud for adhering too closely to the strict Salafi-Wahhabi sect of Sunni Islam (and was temporarily self-exiled in the 1960s as a result), but he now has King Abdullah's ear in pushing a reformist agenda and has even formed his own political party.
