Obama, Michelle host gays at White House

advertisement

He is a proud mutt -- someone who has black blood in him -- a "disease" in the eyes of some who had used biblical teachings to say that God made Caucasians better than others.

But he challenged the "birth defect" that would have left a person with black blood no chance to get elected to the top office in he United States just 20 years earlier; President Barack Obama last week promised to take the civil rights movements to its logical end: equality for gays by doing away with "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.

Other than hidden xenophobia, there is blatant homophobia in US society that sees gays being discriminated against in virtually all fields of life, including the armed forces.

Obama has also promised repeal of a discriminatory law promulgated by the so-called WASP -- White Anglo-Saxon Protestants -- called the Defense of Marriage Act, that confers a strictly bigoted feudal definition to marriage as a covenant between opposite sexes.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

As far as I'm concerned: Openly gay, adheres to the UCMJ, you're ok. Hey, that rhymes.

Obama must weight equal rights regarding gays in the military against the possibility of anti-gay violence in the ranks. Such violent acts are to be expected. You can never legislate tolerance.
